Years 3 & 4

The first year in the senior school has an academic structure which is similar to Years 1 and 2.

Year 3 pupils remain in their form groups for all academic subjects.  In Year 4, children are taught in ability groups for Mathematics and English. The remaining subjects are taught as a class. At this stage the children are beginning to be taught by subject specialists and for some lessons they will be moving from room to room around the school.

In addition, there is an introduction to a more structured prep and Year 4 has a mandatory 30 minutes at the end of each afternoon. Children in the senior school have games or activities for an hour, four days a week.

We highly value the contribution made to the children's education by external visits and internal speakers. Year 4 go on a variety of trips and excursions tied in with the curriculum, normally two per term.

Another large part of life in Year 4, is their production of the school play, with the Year 3s acting as the chorus. The play changes every year and is extremely popular with children and parents alike. Previous performances have included: Robin Hood, Pied Piper of Hamlin, The Snow Queen, Samson & Delilah, and Cinderella & Rockerfella.

As with other years in the senior school, the children have the opportunity to learn a variety of musical instruments with our external music teachers and take part in a variety of after school activities.
