National Writing Competition Winners
Well done to two of our children in Year 6 who were awarded third place and highly commended for a national writing competition respectively: 'War Through Children's Eyes'. Three of our other children were also worthy finalists. The judges wrote of the third place winner: 'This is an immersive, introspective piece, exploring the thoughts and experiences of a young person under gunfire. It reflects on the physical experience as well as the nature of war, ending – so importantly – with hope.' The pupil received a gift voucher as a prize and our school received a £100 book token.
The judges wrote of the highly commended entry: 'A well written story imagining the experiences of a Jewish family at the beginning of the Second World War. The family relationships are portrayed in a moving and convincing way, and there is a real sense of shock and fear as we witness the behaviour of Nazi soldiers.'
